INCATEMA CONSULTING & ENGINEERING PARTICIPATES IN THE FINAL EVALUATION OF A FAO REGIONAL PROGRAM IN CENTRAL AMERICA.

INCATEMA Consulting & Engineering  takes part in the final evaluation of FAO regional Project “Strengthening selected agricultural commodities with a business focus in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua”. This project started in July 2011 and ends in December 2014 and focuses in reducing poverty and inequalities in the region through 4 national components and a regional component. The final evaluation takes place between September and December 2014.

“Agrocadenas”project focuses its efforts in achieving as a key result the positioning of smallholders, farmers organisations and other stakeholders (such as rural SME) in the selected commodities’ value chains, assisting them to reinforce their capacities in terms of production, processing and selling safe and quality products, with the support from local, national and regional (Central American) institutions.

The commodities worked in are:

-          Honduras: basic crops (corn and beans)
-          El Salvador: loroco and jocote
-          Guatemala: potato and beans
-          Nicaragua: cassava and malanga.

Through trainings in GHP (Good Harvesting Practice), the project supported small-scale farmers and organisations ameliorating agriculture productivity, reducing post-harvest losses and ameliorating products quality. With trainings in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), producers’ organisations and SME have learnt to develop high quality products that fulfil all safety standards required by national and international markets.

Finally, producers’ organisations have been supported for commercialisation, identification and contact with potential buyers, allowing them to enter new markets and establish firmly in the value chain with long term strong relationships with the rest of stakeholders.
