INCATEMA concludes the operation phase for Caracol industrial area wastewater treatment plant (Haiti)

INCATEMA Consulting & Engineering finished executing the contract to run Caracol industrial area wastewater treatment plant in Haiti, based in using macrophyte plants for the treatment process.

INCATEMA is steering its efforts towards a correct resource management. Furthermore, treating wastewater with macrophyte plants is a completely biological process where autochthonous plants clean wastewater without high energy requirements, therefore this contributes to sustainable development objectives.

Wastewater treatment by macrophyte plants from an environmental point of view is highly profitable, particularly considering the Haitian climate, that allows optimal functioning all along the year. Mr Fernando Díaz, Head of Infrastructures Department at INCATEMA states that “we are particularly proud to provide Haitians with this turnkey project that can keep on running without great technical complexity”.

Economic benefits and employment

Caracol wastewater treatment plant is located within an industrial area that has employed, from its inception, and employs at present 23,000 Haitians.

This plant contributes to keeping a correct ecological status for rivers, ameliorating the surrounding populations’ livelihoods, and promotes fisheries and natural resources preservation in the area, therefore benefiting from wastewater being treated.
