INCATEMA will carry out an identification mission to formulate 2015-2020 Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Strategy for East Africa with EU funding.

From September the 27th 2015 and for the next 6 months, experts from INCATEMA and COWI Belgium will travel to Djibouti, Ethiopia and other countries in East Africa to prepare 2015 – 2020 Fisheries & Aquaculture Development Regional Strategy and a fish trade protocol between Djibouti and Ethiopia.
The two mail components of this assignment are:
1.       To review the current status of fisheries and aquaculture across Member States of IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development), the main regional development organization grouping countries on the Horn of Africa, and develop a regional strategy with its action plan for 5 years (2015 – 2020). Such a strategy and action plan will be taken into account for future projects to be funded by the European Union out of the 11th European Development Fund.
2.       To develop and implement fish products trade facilitation modalities between Djibouti and Ethiopia. This pilot trade facilitation protocol will help to link exporters and importers; will identify the existing challenges and propose trade facilitation modalities in the Horn of Africa.
This work is funded by the European Union, hosted by the EU Delegation in Djibouti with the support of IGAD and significant contributions from the African Union and regional fisheries bodies operating in the Horn of Africa.
