MUCOSO FARM COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY LAUNCH.

The Angolan Minister for Agriculture, Alfonso Pedro Canga, has launched the start-up of commercial activity for the Mucoso Farm in the municipality of Cambambe (Kwanza North province), whose project has been developed between 2009 and 2012 by INCATEMA Consulting & Engineering and whose first 2 years of technology transfer, running activities at experimental level, have been conducted by INCATEMA Angola.
This 500 hectare farm features a drop irrigation scheme divided up in 160 3.11 hectare plots. The irrigation scheme includes water pumping of 1,800 cubic m/h from Kwanza River to feed two tanks of 1,500 cubic m, from where water is treated and distributed by a fertilisation scheme and further pumping schemes to the plots, classified in two main categories: horticulture plots and fruit tree plots.
The project included as well further activities such as creating 22 km of new rural roads, a drinking water network of 8 cubic m/h for housing facilities with a laundry well, storage space in a single building of 1,100 square m, a 2,500 square m greenhouse, rehabilitating a pumping facility and 8 housing facilities, building an office facility and an industrial galley.
During the two years of technology transfer with INCATEMA Angola running the farm (2013 – 2014), more than 80 local employees have been trained by work groups with great success implementing agricultural advisory services, carrying out research on the best crops varieties in the experimental plots, a value chain study for the related agrifood market, and the significant contribution to national offer for horticulture products with the crops produced: melon, watermelon, cucumber, pumpkin, tomato, pepper, cabbage, pineapple, banana, citric fruits and mango.
