Incatema has commenced work on a new technical assistance contract in Angola, valued at approximately 1.3 million euros, for the development of the MOSAP 3 small-scale agriculture transformation project. The work, which began this past July, focuses on the identification, measurement and analysis of natural resources, as well as the detailed design for the rehabilitation of 10 gravity-fed irrigation schemes located in the provinces of Huíla and Benguela.
Improving agricultural resilience
The main aim of this project is to make better use of existing water resources, building on current infrastructure and practices. “This project represents a qualitative leap forward for 4,200 beneficiaries, as optimising water use across these 1,440 hectares of irrigated land will significantly improve crop resilience and productivity, enabling farmers to obtain more than one harvest per agricultural year,” says Mrs Adelaida Pérez Milán, director of consultancy at Incatema, commenting on the impact of the contract.
Technical design and socio-environmental safeguards
To bring about these improvements—which range from the repair of canals to the construction of storage reservoirs—the company will contribute with its expertise in specialised engineering throughout the entire process. The scope ranges from carrying out topographical surveys and structural assessments to preparing tender documents. This includes the preparation of the environmental and social safeguard instruments required by World Bank standards and national legislation. This will ensure low-risk implementation and sustainable development.
