Incatema has successfully completed a new strategic project in Angola aimed at strengthening the coffee value chain in the provinces of Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte and Uíge.
The initiative was developed within the framework of the MUKAFE Project for the National Coffee Institute (INCA) and is financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and with funds from the European Union, reaffirming the joint commitment to sustainable development and the revitalization of the agricultural sector in the country. The objective of the project has been to improve the competitiveness, sustainability and articulation of the Angolan coffee sector by strengthening primary production as well as processing and marketing.
A comprehensive approach to transforming the sector
The intervention has been structured along three main lines of action:
1. Diagnosis and mapping of the value chain
Incatema’s technical team has carried out an exhaustive analysis of the actors in the production chain -producers, cooperatives, traders, processors and exporters- as well as of the professional advisory services available in the target provinces.
This work has identified gaps, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement, which has provided a roadmap to drive innovation, transparency and sustainability in the sector.
2. Equitable contractual models and sectoral dialogue
The project has promoted spaces for dialogue between the different links in the value chain to design sustainable and balanced contractual models.
We have worked to define agreements based on market prices, quality standards and a fair distribution of added value, fostering trust among producers, processors, traders and exporters, as well as the adoption of good environmental, logistical and commercial practices.
3. Facility modernization and business plans
The third line of action has focused on the technical, economic and environmental evaluation of local coffee processing facilities. Incatema has developed adapted business models and plans aimed at modernizing infrastructure, optimizing production capacity and improving the competitiveness of Angolan coffee in the markets.
The project also includes the design of strategies to facilitate access to financing for local companies, helping to strengthen the business fabric and rural employment.
“This project represents a strategic opportunity to consolidate the coffee value chain in Angola from an integral perspective. We are not only analyzing production, but also contractual mechanisms, processing capacity and access to financing. The objective is to generate solid, transparent and sustainable structures that allow local actors to gain competitiveness and long-term stability,” says Adelaida Pérez Milán, head of consulting projects at Incatema.
Milán also underlines the importance of institutional support: “The support of the French Development Agency, with financing from the European Union, is key to promoting structural reforms in the coffee sector. This international cooperation makes it possible to mobilize technical knowledge and generate a real impact in the producing communities”.

With this initiative, Incatema reinforces its position as a strategic partner in agro-industrial development projects in Africa, focusing on interventions that combine technical analysis, institutional strengthening and business support.
The project has contributed to increasing the local value added of coffee, improving producers’ incomes and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in rural Angola.
